  71. SCANTOOL helps  you  to  remove  the found viruses
  72. easily, using CLEAN-UP.
  73. SCANTOOL  will show you a  list  of  the  possible
  74. viruses.  Choose the  virus-name, which  has to be
  75. removed.  You can  return  to  the  main  menu  by
  76. pressing <ESC>.
  77. If SCAN reports a  virus which is not contained in
  78. the list, you have  to  use  CLEAN-UP from the DOS
  79. prompt, i.e. exit  SCANTOOL  and remove the  virus
  80. using CLEAN-UP or SCAN manually.
  81. It may be, that the only  possibility you have, is
  82. to use the SCAN /D option.

  152. SCAN will also check for new, unknown viruses with
  153. the  Add Validation  and Check Validation options.
  154. This  is  done  by  computing  a  code for a file,
  155. appending it to the file,  and then validating the
  156. file  against  that code.  If  the  file  has been
  157. modified,  the  check  will  no  longer match, and
  158. viral infection may  have  occurred. SCAN uses two
  159. independently generated CRC:
  160.            (Cyclic Redundancy Check)
  161. checks that are added to  the end of program files
  162. to do this.  Files  which are self-checking should
  163. not be validated  since  this  will  "set off" the
  164. program's  self-check.  Files  which  are  self-
  165. modifying  may have different values for the same
  166. program depending upon the modifications.
  167. SCAN adds validation  codes to .COM and .EXE files
  168. only.  The  validation  codes  for  the  partition
  169. table, boot sector,  and system files, are kept in
  170. a  hidden file  called  SCANVAL.VAL  in  the  root
  171. directory.

  177. With  this Menu Option, SCAN  will  do a CRC Check
  178. of the file  or  directories  or  even  a complete
  179. drive  of   your  choice.  This  will, of  course,
  180. increase the  size of the file included in the CRC
  181. check. Some  programs  include a self CRC Checking
  182. routine, and  because  SCAN  has  written  the CRC
  183. result into the file the program  may not function
  184. afterwards.
  185. In other words, great  care is  to  be taken  when
  186. using this option.

  191. SCAN has written the Checksum to.
